Kumano Taisha, also called the "Ise of the Northeast," is a shrine of distinguished standing. An ancient shrine with roots in the Heian period, it became an important center when Kumano Sanzan faith spread throughout the Northeast. Of particular note are the carvings of "three hares." The main shrine behind the worship hall features magnificent carvings inspired by the legend of the moon rabbit. It is said that if one can find all three hares, they will receive the blessing of romantic connection. Surrounded by beautiful nature throughout the seasons, the autumn foliage is particularly splendid.
