History
Kawaraji is an ancient temple said to have been founded by the Bodhisattva Gyoki. Gyoki-sama was an eminent Buddhist priest of the Nara period who founded numerous temples for the benefit of the people. Affectionately known as the "Manjushri of Wisdom," it particularly attracts examination candidates and students wishing for academic success. The grounds are pervaded by a settled atmosphere and have a history of serving as spiritual support for those devoted to their studies. Seeking the protection of Manjushri Bodhisattva's wisdom, many continue to visit this place of faith.
