This temple is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai in the early Heian period. The principal image, Yakushi Nyorai, is a Buddha with remarkable efficacy, said to save people from suffering and heal all sentient beings. It has long been known as 'Yakuo-san,' and many people have visited to pray for recovery from illness and for good health. Within the precincts, there is also 'Kukai's Well,' said to have been dug by Kukai, and a beautiful garden that soothes the hearts of visitors. The temple is particularly known for its efficacy in warding off evil, attracting many worshippers. The scenery is beautiful throughout the seasons, with cherry blossoms in full bloom in spring and vibrant autumn leaves in fall.
