Musashino Shrine

Musashino Jinja is enshrined in Hanakoganei, Kodaira City, Tokyo. It was founded in 1724 when Taiken, the head priest of the nearby Enjoin temple, developed the local land and established a shrine dedicated to Bishamonten as the guardian deity of the village. Enjoin served as the betto-ji (administrative temple). During the Meiji-era separation of Shinto and Buddhism, the principal deity was changed from Bishamonten to Sarutahiko no Okami. In 1871, the shrine was designated a sonsha (village shrine) under the modern shrine ranking system.
