History

Byakko

Zenryuji, with the mountain name Koeizan, is a temple of the Nichiren sect located in Hongo-cho, Hachioji City, Tokyo. Founded in 1483 (Bunmei 15) by the monk Kettodo Nosho, it was originally established as the family temple of the Oishi clan, lords of Takiyama Castle. It later received temple land from Hojo Ujiteru, lord of Hachioji Castle, and during the Edo period was granted a vermilion-seal land certificate by the shogunate, reflecting its deep ties to local lords. The precincts enshrine Hachioji Shichifukujin no Hashiri Daikokuten and continue to welcome many visitors today.
