History

Byakko

Suitengu Jinja, enshrined in Nihonbashi, has the Suitengu in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture as its hongu (head shrine). It enshrines Amanominakanushi no Ōkami, Emperor Antoku, Kenmeimonin, and the Nun of the Second Rank, and has been cherished by common people since the Edo period as 'Omizu Tenjin-sama.' It is nationally famous particularly as a deity of safe childbirth and conception, and many pregnant women and couples seeking children visit to pray. Visits on the Day of the Dog are especially crowded, and this warm shrine continues to watch over the birth of new life.
