History
Awashima Jinja is enshrined in Shinkaichi Town, Uto City. The name Awashima may derive from being cherished as a deity protecting things as small and precious as grains of millet. Uto is a rich land facing the Ariake Sea, blessed with both the bounty of the sea and the abundance of the earth. This shrine has long been treasured as a place for giving thanks for such natural blessings and wishing for the peace of the community. It is particularly revered as a shrine watching over the healthy growth of children.
