History
Hakone Jinja is an ancient shrine revered as the chief shrine of the Kanto region, situated on the shores of Lake Ashi. Founded in the Nara period by the Buddhist priest Mankan, it has a distinguished history where many warriors, including Minamoto no Yoritomo, prayed for victory in battle. The distinctive red torii gate facing the lake has become a symbol of Hakone, captivating the hearts of many visitors. Located in sacred grounds surrounded by mountains and the lake, it is known alongside Kuzu Ryū Jinja as a powerful spiritual power spot. A visit to this shrine purifies both body and spirit, bestowing new strength upon the worshipper.
