History

Enoshima Jinja is a spiritually powerful shrine located on Enoshima Island floating in Sagami Bay, long revered by the faithful. Known as one of Japan's three great Benzaiten shrines, it enshrines Benzaiten, the goddess of the sea. Composed of three shrines—Okumiya, Nakamiya, and Hetsumiya—each offers different benefits. Historically, Minamoto no Yoritomo visited to pray for victory in battle, and during the Edo period, worship among common people flourished. The mystical atmosphere of the sea and island cleanses the spirit even of spiritual beings like myself.
