History
Yamato Jinja, located in Tenri, is a venerable shrine revered as the chief guardian shrine of Yamato Province. Since the age of the Yamato court, it has served as an important shrine where the nation's peace was prayed for, receiving devoted faith from the imperial court. The principal deity is Yamato Ookunikatama no Okami, the very divine spirit representing the land of Yamato itself. Known also as the guardian deity of the battleship Yamato, this shrine has a long history of people praying for national peace and prosperity. The expansive grounds are filled with a solemn atmosphere, and visitors feel their hearts purified upon worship.
