Akatsutsumirokutokoro Shrine

Rokusho Shrine in Akatsutsumi, Setagaya, Tokyo is traditionally said to have been founded during the Eiroku era (1558–1570), established as the tutelary shrine of the Matsubara clan, retainers of the Kira lords of Setagaya Castle. The principal deities are five kami — Okuninushi, Izanagi, Izanami, Amaterasu, and Susanoo — and Sugawara Michizane was added through consolidation in the Meiji era, giving the shrine its name of "six enshrined." During the Edo period, the shogunate donated shrine lands, and the shrine gathered strong local devotion as the guardian of Akatsutsumi village. It continues to stand with dignity in a Setagaya residential neighborhood, watching over the community.
