ise bu kakimoto jinja
About
History
Isebe Kakimoto Jinja is enshrined in Hinata, Kainan City, Wakayama Prefecture. The shrine was formed during the Meiji era through the merger of two formerly separate shrines: Isebe Jinja and Kakimoto Jinja. The principal deities are Isebe no Okami and Kakimoto no Okami. Kakimoto no Okami is traditionally said to enshrine Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, the celebrated poet of the Man'yoshu anthology, who is said to have visited this region and composed verse here. Shrines dedicated to Hitomaro can be found throughout Japan, and this site has long attracted the faith of locals as a sacred place associated with poetry, learning, and local protection. The autumn grand festival draws many worshippers, maintaining the shrine's role as guardian of the community.
