History

Byakko

Kumatata Jinja is a shrine of profound history enshrined in the Hirano district. An ancient shrine continuing from the Heian period, it is also said to be a place connected to Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. Affectionately known by the name "Kumatata," it has long been the guardian deity of the community. During the summer festival, impressive drum floats parade through the streets, and the entire town of Hirano is enveloped in the fervor of celebration. I too look forward to this liveliness every year.
