History
Chogaizan Oomononushi Jinja is a shrine of high rank situated at the summit of Chogaizan, a sacred peak that rises at the border between Akita and Yamagata Prefectures. With Oomononushi no Okami as its chief deity, it is a venerable shrine that has gathered reverence as the primary shrine of Dewa Province since ancient times. Chogaizan is known for its beautiful form called the "Fuji of Dewa," and since ancient times has been the object of mountain faith, gathering the faith of many people. While a pilgrimage to the summit is extremely arduous, it becomes a special experience through which one receives profound emotion and divine blessing.
