History
Iyataka Jinja is located within Senshi Park and is a shrine dedicated to the Satake clan, lords of Akita Domain. Established in the Meiji period, it was built to honor the spirits of the Satake clan, who devoted themselves to Akita's development, and to praise their virtues. The name 'Iyataka' (彌高) carries the meaning of becoming ever higher and ever more noble. Known also as a cherry blossom viewing site, visitors can worship surrounded by beautiful cherry blossoms in spring. Through the virtues of the Satake clan, who excelled in learning and politics, those with aspirations receive special divine protection.
