History

Byakko

Saga Prefectural Gokoku Shrine was established in 1878 as a Shokonsha to enshrine the spirits of those from Saga Prefecture who gave their lives for the nation. Renamed to its current form in 1939, it enshrines approximately 35,000 souls who fell from the Boshin War through World War II, including post-war Self-Defense Force members who died in the line of duty. Spring and autumn grand festivals bring many attendees to pay respects and pray for peace.
