History

Byakko

Kotohira Jinja is enshrined in Toyama City. This shrine was invited from Kotohira no Miya in Sanuki Province and venerates Omonoushi no Kami. Kotohira faith spread among maritime traders and merchants during the Edo period and became affectionately known as "Konpira-san." Since Toyama is an ancient commercial city that prospered through medicine trading and maritime commerce, people engaged in commerce and seafaring came to this shrine to pray for prosperous business and safe voyages. For sailors traveling from the Tateyama Range toward the Japan Sea, Kotohira was a reassuring protective deity.
