History
Hie Jinja, located in Sannocho, is a venerable shrine established through the enshrinement of Sanno Gongen from Mount Hiei. It enshrines Oyamauki no Kami as its principal deity and has long been cherished by local people as 'Sanno-san'. During the Edo period, it received the patronage of the Toyama Domain and played an important role as the protective deity of the castle town. It is known for having the monkey as its sacred messenger, and is said to bestow benefits of protection against evil and misfortune. Today it continues to gather the faith of many people as the local tutelary deity, a warm and welcoming shrine.
