History

Byakko

Rengajo-in is one of the most distinguished lodging temples on Mount Koya. It possesses a long history continuing from the time of Kobo Daishi Kukai and has served as an important practice hall for Shingon esoteric Buddhism. Within the temple, strict ascetic practices have been conducted for generations, producing many eminent Buddhist monks. Particularly in esoteric Buddhist secret teachings and meditative practice, deep teachings have been transmitted across the ages, and today it remains a precious place where genuine practice experiences can be undertaken. Within the grounds wrapped in silence, one can touch the teachings of Kobo Daishi, truly a sacred place among sacred places.
