Its founding is traditionally dated to the Bunmei era (1469–1487), connected to the Ryuzoji clan who once ruled the Hizen domain. The shrine served as a place of veneration for the Ryuzoji family, guarding their military fortunes and the local community. It quietly preserves the memory of Hizen Ryuzoji clan in Saga's long history.
