History

Byakko

Ikaruga Jinja is an ancient shrine enshrined in Ikaruga no Sato, a place closely associated with Prince Shotoku. This area is near Horyu-ji Temple and has long been known as sacred ground where Buddhist culture flourished. The origin of the name Ikaruga contains various theories, but it carries the meaning of a peaceful village where beautiful doves dance gracefully. As the spiritual pillar of the local people, this shrine has gathered faith over many centuries. The spirit of harmony that Prince Shotoku idealized lives on within the shrine grounds today.
