History
Haguro Jinja is one of the Three Mountains of Dewa and has long been revered as a sacred site of mountain worship. From the Heian period, it flourished as a spiritual center of shugendo practice, attracting many ascetics and pilgrims. The cedar groves of Haguro mountain are particularly notable, with ancient trees over several hundred years old standing in majestic ranks that heighten the mystical quality of the sacred realm. The entire mountain is considered the body of the deity, and as a sacred space where nature and the divine are unified, it continues to purify the hearts of people who visit.
