History
Ikku Jinja in Niihama is a venerable shrine that has long commanded reverence as the primary shrine of Iyo Province. It enshrines Oyamatsumi no Kami as its principal deity, a god who presides over the blessings of sea and mountain, and has gathered the faith of the local community. Particularly in Niihama, where maritime and mining industries flourished, the shrine has been devotedly worshipped as a guardian deity of industry. The autumn drum festival held annually here is renowned for its magnificence. Despite being situated in an urban area, the shrine grounds maintain an atmosphere of tranquility and solemnity, serving as a true spiritual pillar of the community.
