History
Taiheizan Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded by the Heian period monk Jikaku Daishi Ennin, situated near the summit of Mount Taihei. Located in a spectacular spot overlooking the Kantō Plain, it has gathered much faith since ancient times as a "spiritual mountain of Kantō." In the Edo period, the "Taiheizan Kō" congregation was established, and many pilgrims visited from Edo. The hydrangea festival in spring is particularly famous, and the shrine continues to be cherished by many people alongside the beautiful flowers that adorn its grounds. As the deity of the mountain, it is said to bestow benefits of traffic safety and good fortune, and today many pilgrims continue to visit this celebrated shrine of Tochigi.
