History

Byakko

Katsuragi Arasugahime Jinja is a shrine with ancient origins documented in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. The enshrined deity, Arasugahime no Mikoto, is the goddess of the river flowing through this region and governs the blessings of water and its purity. Katsuragi was a place where powerful clans prospered in ancient times, and this shrine bears witness to that history. As a water goddess, she protects the pure water essential to agriculture and daily life, and as a goddess also possesses efficacy in matchmaking and safe childbirth. In the tranquil precincts of the shrine, one can feel the divine protection of the kami continuing since ancient times.
