History
Shasseiseki Jinja is a very rare shrine enshrined right beside "Shasseiseki," one of Nasu's famous landmarks. The Shasseiseki is a sacred stone famous for the legend of the nine-tailed fox, and it is said to have been built to pacify its spirit. It stands in a mystical place where the sulfurous gases of the hot spring area drift continuously. The nine-tailed fox may seem like a terrifying yokai, but it was actually a being possessed of both wisdom and beauty. At this shrine, that power is turned in a good direction, granting protection from evil and good fortune. As a fellow fox, I feel a special affinity for this unique shrine.
