Wakaura Tenmangu is a heavenly shrine enshrined in the scenic Wakaura. It enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, and is a historic shrine visited by many scholars and literary figures since ancient times. Wakaura has been known since the Manyoshu era as a beautiful scenic spot and utamakura. The view from Tenmangu is exceptional. As one climbs the stone steps, a spectacular panorama of the Kii Channel unfolds, refreshing the hearts of visitors.
