History

Shori Hachimangu is a shrine located in Sakurajosui, Setagaya, Tokyo. As the guardian deity of the former Kamikitazawa village, it is said to have been founded in 1026 (the 3rd year of Juju). Although its official name is Hachimangu, it is widely known by its common name meaning shrine of victory. Enshrining Emperor Ojin and Uka no Mitama no Kami, it is venerated for blessings of victory in competition and martial valor. Today, athletes and sports enthusiasts especially seek the shrines powerful divine favor.
