Enkyō-ji, nestled on Mount Shosho in Himeji, is a Tendai Buddhist ancient temple also called the Western Mount Hiei. Founded by the ascetic Shōkū in 966, it has long been a sacred place where many monks devoted themselves to learning. The entire mountain is a sacred site and has become famous as a film location. Within the grounds harmonizing with nature, people never cease to come seeking to purify their spirits and pray for advancement in learning and the arts.
