Enkyō-ji, nestled on Mount Shosho in Himeji, is a Tendai Buddhist ancient temple also called the Western Mount Hiei. Founded by the ascetic Shōkū in 966, it has long been a sacred place where many monks devoted themselves to learning. The entire mountain is a sacred site and has become famous as a film location. Within the grounds harmonizing with nature, people never cease to come seeking to purify their spirits and pray for advancement in learning and the arts. Including the journey ascending by ropeway, it is truly a place of spiritual practice.
