History

Byakko

Taisho-ji is a temple of the Shingon Shingi school in Chofu, Tokyo. It was founded in 1915 (Taisho 4) when Eiho-ji — an ancient temple dating to the Nara period and formerly the betto-ji of the neighboring Fuda Tenmangu Shrine — merged with Hojo-ji and Fudo-in. The temple takes its name from the era in which it was established. Within the grounds stand a memorial pagoda for the founding monk Tensaku Reyu and a Koshin stone tower from the Edo period, silent witnesses to a long history rooted in the community of Chofu.
