Sengyuri Hachiman-gu has been held in deep reverence since ancient times as the First Shrine of Hizen Province, a shrine of distinguished standing. Enshrining Emperor Ojin as its principal deity, it has gathered the faith of warriors as a deity of victory and martial fortune. The grounds contain a great old camphor tree with a history of several centuries, and its sacred atmosphere purifies the hearts of visitors. Particularly associated with 'victory,' it attracts many visits from students taking examinations and athletes, with constant prayers for triumph.
