History

Byakko

Motojuku Shrine is said to have been enshrined as the guardian deity of this area during the late Muromachi to early Edo period, when the Senju district was first being settled. The name Motojuku refers to the original settlement that existed before Senju post town was formally established on the Nikko Highway. During the Edo period, as Senju developed into the first post station on the Nikko Road, the shrine served as a spiritual center for the local community.
