History

Ichimori Ōtori Shrine is enshrined in Yokoyamacho, Hachioji City, Tokyo, and has been revered as the guardian deity of the Hachioji-juku marketplace, bearing the name Ichimori (market guardian). Since the Tensho era, it has been venerated as the protector of commerce and industry alongside the development of Hachioji-juku. The enshrined deities are Uganomitama-no-Mikoto and Amenohiwashi-no-Mikoto — deities of rice, commerce, industry, and good fortune respectively. Every November on the Day of the Rooster, a Tori-no-ichi market fair is held, with rows of kumade stalls drawing many visitors. The shrine continues to watch over the people of Hachioji as a concurrently administered shrine of Hachiman Yakumo Shrine.
