History
Oji Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded by the Toshima clan during the Genhei era. It enshrines the Kumano Gongen of Kishu and has long been revered as Oji Gongen. During the Edo period, it received the deep faith of the shogunal family and was particularly known for its 'Oji Jinja Dengaku Dance' performed during the August grand festival, drawing many worshippers. Today, it continues to be cherished by local residents as the tutelary shrine of Kita Ward.
