History
Shinganj is a Jodo-shu temple located in Daizawa, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. It was founded in 1608 (Keicho 13) as a mortuary temple for Yuki Hideyasu. During the Edo period, the temple was famous for its moxa treatment, needle memorial service (hari kuyo), and Fuji-ko mountain worship gatherings, drawing many pilgrims. The annual needle memorial service held on February 8th has been designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Setagaya Ward. The temple and its surroundings were also selected as one of the "Setagaya 100 Views" in 1984.
