History
Saimonin is a prestigious lodging temple located near the western entrance of Koya, with a long history of warmly welcoming pilgrims. As a temple hall continuing from the time of Kobo Daishi, it has preserved the teachings of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism. As the name "Saimon" suggests, it has served an important role as the gateway to Koya. Many pilgrims and practitioners have passed through here to take their first steps toward the sacred place. On the serene grounds, one can experience authentic spiritual practice following Kobo Daishi's teachings, and it continues to be cherished by modern seekers of inner peace.
