History

Byakko

Koroku Jinja is enshrined in Minami-Senju, Arakawa Ward, Tokyo, with founding traditions dating to 1561 (Eiroku 4). The unusual name "Koroku" has several theories surrounding its origin. The shrine has long been revered as the guardian deity of this area, enshrining Omodaru-no-Mikoto and Kashikone-no-Mikoto. The annual festival held on the first Sunday of June is beloved by local residents. Though modest in scale, the precincts carry the warm spirit of the shitamachi district, offering a quiet refuge from the bustle of modern life.
