History
Mono be Jinja is known as a shrine connected to the Monobe clan, an ancient powerful family. The Monobe clan long served the imperial court in military affairs and also held responsibility for sacred rituals. This shrine enshrines Nigihayahi no Mikoto, the ancestral deity of the Monobe clan, and has been revered as a divinity with efficacious spiritual power relating to ancient martial valor and sacred ceremonies. Affectionately called "Monobe-san" by local residents, this shrine is particularly visited by those undertaking contests or new challenges.
