Tochigi Prefectural Gokoku Shrine, located in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture, enshrines 55,361 spirits of those connected to the former Utsunomiya domain and Tochigi Prefecture who gave their lives in service of the nation, including in the Meiji Restoration, the First Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Greater East Asia War, as well as police, firefighters, and Self-Defense Force members who died in the line of duty. It is the only shrine in Japan where the Emperor and Empress officially make personal visits. Continuing for many years to conduct memorial services at overseas battlefields regardless of nationality or wartime affiliation, it is dedicated to world peace and the coexistence of humanity. A model of a Zero fighter aircraft donated by Fune-mura Toru is displayed in front of the main hall.
