Wakamiya Jinja is a subsidiary shrine situated within the grounds of Kasuga Taisha, enshrining the child deity of Amagotorononene no Mikoto, the principal deity of Kasuga Taisha. A shrine of distinguished pedigree continuing from the Heian period, it especially watches over the growth and development of the younger generation. The "Kasuga Wakamiya Onjugyoji" festival, held every December, is a traditional event spanning nearly 900 years since the Heian period and is beloved as a winter emblem of Nara. Through the blessings of Wakamiya, countless worshippers never cease to pray for the healthy development of youth and their academic success, as well as good fortune for those embarking on new journeys.
