History

Byakko

Suzuki Shrine in Amakusa, Kumamoto, enshrines three figures who dedicated themselves to the reconstruction of Amakusa after the Shimabara Rebellion left the island devastated. The first magistrate, Suzuki Shigenari, worked tirelessly for the recovery of the people alongside his elder brother, the monk Suzuki Shozan. The second magistrate, Suzuki Shigenobu, carried on their legacy. The shrine honors these three souls and has long been venerated by the people of Amakusa as a guardian deity of the region.
