History
A hall of education located at the foot of Koyasan, the sacred site of Shingon Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai. As Koyasan developed as a religious city, it played an important role as one of the bases for welcoming many believers and pilgrims. Koyasan has prospered since the Heian period as the fundamental training ground of Shingon esoteric Buddhism, a spiritual place where numerous monks practiced. The teachings learned at this place spread throughout the nation and became a spiritual support for many people. Today, it continues to be cherished by those visiting Koyasan as an important place to touch the profound teachings of Buddhism and attain peace of mind.
