History

Byakko

Nagasaki Jinja is an ancient shrine said to have been founded in 1189 (Bunji 5), during the Muromachi period, by Toshima Ujisada, the feudal lord of this region. The enshrined deity is Amaterasu Ōmikami, and the shrine has long been venerated as the tutelary deity of the area. During the Edo period, it became beloved as the "tutelary shrine of Nagasaki village," and continues to be cherished by local residents today. Each September, the annual grand festival features a traditional mikoshi procession, serving as an important ceremony that deepens community bonds. It is a warm-hearted shrine nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood.
