History

Byakko

Horin-ji in Nakano Ward is an ancient temple of the Shingon school with a long history. It is said to have been founded in the Heian period and continues to transmit the teachings of Kobo Daishi Kukai as a sacred place cherished by local people. During the Edo period, it received the devout faith of the feudal lord who governed Nakano, and the precincts house a magnificent main hall and many Buddhist statues. Even today, Goma prayers based on Shingon esoteric Buddhist teachings are performed, and many believers visit seeking peace of mind. The precincts, enveloped in silence, are a healing space that makes one forget the urban hustle and bustle.
