History

Mibuji Temple, located in Daishimachi, is an ancient Tendai sect temple traditionally regarded as the birthplace of Jikaku Daishi Ennin. Its mountain name is Shiunzan, and the principal image is Fudo Myoo. Ennin was born on this sacred ground and later traveled to Tang China, returning with the esoteric teachings of Buddhism. As the very name of the district — Daishimachi, meaning "Great Teacher Town" — attests, this place has long been cherished as holy ground deeply connected to the Great Teacher. Visitors may feel the compassionate protection of Fudo Myoo in the air of the precincts.
