History
Akita Tenmangu is a shrine enshrining Sugawara no Michizane, renowned as the deity of learning. Standing in the heart of Akita, this venerable Tenmangu has long gathered the faith of students, examination candidates, and those devoted to scholarship. Through the divine virtue of Michizane, academic achievement and examination success prayers abound, as do visitors seeking the cultivation of wisdom and talent. Plum trees are planted in the shrine grounds, lending an air of remembrance toward Michizane. Continuing today as the center of learning faith in Akita, this shrine remains beloved by many.
