History

Byakko

Shirahige Shrine of Shibue, enshrined in Higashi-Yotsugi, Katsushika, Tokyo, has long served as the tutelary deity of the Shibue district. The principal enshrined kami is Sarutahiko no Mikoto, the god of roads and travelers, joined by Amaterasu Omikami, Oyamakui no Mikoto, and Sugawara no Michizane. According to shrine records, it already stood on this ground during the Eiroku era (1558–1570), and throughout the Edo period it gathered devout faith as the guardian deity of Shibue village. Ancient koshin stone monuments and stone towers remain within the precinct, bearing witness to its long history.
