Byakko

Yakuoin is an ancient Tendai Buddhist temple located in Motoyoshida, Mito, Ibaraki. Enshrining Yakushi Nyorai — the Medicine Buddha who heals illness — as its principal deity, the temple has been deeply venerated since antiquity. The main hall is designated as a National Important Cultural Property, while the Niomon gate, the principal image of Yakushi Nyorai, and the Twelve Divine Generals are designated as Ibaraki Prefectural Cultural Properties. Through the centuries, countless people have visited to pray for recovery from illness, entrusting themselves to the compassionate hands of the Medicine Buddha.
