History

Byakko

Narimune Suga Jinja, enshrined in Narita-higashi, Suginami, Tokyo, has served as the guardian shrine of the former Narimune village since ancient times. The principal deity is Susanoo no Mikoto, revered for protection against pestilence and misfortune. During the Edo period the shrine was known as Tenno-sha and flourished as the central place of worship for the community. Though the exact founding date remains unknown, the ancient trees within the precincts quietly attest to its long history. Each summer, a grand festival is held featuring a portable shrine procession that draws many local residents together in celebration.
