Kirishima Jingu is a sacred place known through the legend of the heavenly descent, truly the stage of Japanese mythology! Standing at the foot of the sacred peak of the Kirishima mountain range where Ninigi no Mikoto descended from Takama-ga-hara, it is a shrine of distinguished rank. Its founding reaches back to ancient times, and after several relocations, it has come to rest in its present location. The beautiful vermillion-lacquered shrine buildings are solemn and stately, and the grounds surrounded by Kirishima's rich nature are filled with a divine atmosphere. Through its connection to the mythology of the heavenly descent, it is known throughout the nation as a premier shrine of Kyushu, attracting many pilgrims from all across the country.
